What are your top three ways to market a new website your about to release??

Personally I seem to follow the same method with every new business we launch.
1. Press Releases that hit Google News, Yahoo News and Associated Press among other places.
2. Prelaunch countdowns to get the hype there
3. Forum links/articles/ guest blogger spots (ok, so I mentioned more then one there but they are kind of all the same type of thing and besides its my forum, I'll do what I want )

(3) may not help as most webmasters do a nofollow on links on forums. This is also recommended somewhere on some blog run by some google guy IIRC.

Major thing that really helps is having high quality incoming links from high PR sites and your site has a link from PHPCow site which is a PR7 site and that link is primarily what has caused yr site to have a PR5. SERP has direct relation with PR with higher PR sites finding higher position.

I don't totally agree with the SERP has a direct relationship with PR, I know many keywords that pull top sites that are PR3. I think this is way over simplifying it, as is saying on PR& link from the cow is why my site ranks well. High quality links obviously help websites, but so does links in general, on-site seo techniques, key worded links etc. As for forum links, the forums I hang out on all do not have no-follows, blogs yes, wordpress has it standard on it still I believe the no-follow, I had to ad a plug-in to get the follow on my links.

I was just trying to start a lighthearted conversation here, didn't mean for it to get serious, but I can't help but take all the work I've put into my site rankings personal

How do you do this?

I personally go through PRweb.com which is a press release website and pay typically $80 and they do the press release that hits all top locations search engines, etc. I also do a search for free pr services and distribute there and you will typically get different areas covered with your press release and therefore get the word out even better!

1) Google and Yahoo sitemaps.

2) Links from other forums that I am active on.

3) This is a new one for me, but I ran an ad in the newspaper that came out today.

I did the newspaper thing and only got one member and that was from the newspaper itself. Being a non profit, I think of a marketing technique and then get the newspaper to do a article on me then that get traffic. So if you can think of a marketing technique and get a article written on you that works. Though I live in a small town and they are always scrapping for news.
