Ok, so I know 'you get what you pay for' but there has to be some decent free forum software out there? I personally love my cute little cow I made for this forum, but I can make him anywhere. What do you all think if the best free forum software? This is my first time using myBB and I think its the template I chose but its very buggy. I'm constantly fixing issues, and still finding more. On top of that there seem to be very few new plugins/templates made anymore for myBB so I'm open to new ideas.
PHPBB is probably the most popular, and easiest to use.....it also has a lot of plugins you can add
I have used that one before, I always worry about security with it though. I might try that though, I'm alittle sick of always fixing this one

I know, it all comes done to vB there really just is no comparison. I was just waiting to figure a couple things out to be sure about this forum before buying the vB liscense, but chances are thats what I'll go to. Kind of pointless to keep switching forum software I guess as long as I can get these currents bugs squashed I guess I'll stick with this one for a little while.
Among free and open source software, phpBB tops my list. Fairly good product, huge MOD database, and pretty good support.

phpBB is good but has a very nasty history about security vulnerabilities. There was a time when Google stopped giving out any search results for phpBB as hackers used to search and attack servers. Any free software with third party mod developers will always require huge time on staying updated (upgrading and keeping software well patched always) on every security vulnerability reported. One slip and server could be hacked and damage could many a times be to an extent where it needs a complete reload of OS.
Amongst commercial scripts (it's worth the price) IPB and VB both are great. Never use any third party mods as far as possible.
I've run vB before which is probably where I'll go after this one. I think this script though myBB is actually pretty good...considering its free and all. I do miss some of the functions that vB gives you.
Do you have a PayPal account....I know i would donate, and I'm sure others would as well to help foot the bill for a VB installation
What internet marketer doesn't have paypal? LOL Yes I do but I really don't want to accept others money. I hope to be buying it soon, but I just had to finish a couple things first. Maybe Google will buy it for me this month LOL Go adsense go!
