Good Morning..

I am trying to evaluate PHPCow MyWeb and thought that this forum would be a great place to check out...

I'm Dave Edmonds, a webminister in South Carolina. I typically help churches and non-profits develop / enhance their websites. Been around the game since 1995 and seeing a lot of changes out there.

Looking forward to the posts!

I personally have not yet used phpmyweb but have been reading up on it, the demo can be seen here http://myweb.phpcow.com/ From how I'm reading it, it says phpmyweb is a homepage on type of script, versus phpcow is a total CMS script. PHPCowMyweb currently cost $845 dollars versus the phpcow script $100. Personally I'd prefer the whole CMS versus one home page script, that in order to make a full website you can integrate it with another CMS...too much work for me :-) I think it is nice to have a simple PhD system for your homepage, and it looks nice on the demo I'm just not getting why people would choose that over the full phpcow script?

Maybe you can help me? Is there a reason you're considering buying the phpcowmyweb over the phpcow? Hopefully someone else in here has used it and will have better information for you. I may be misunderstandingtheir new platform...but thats how I'm reading it atleast.
I really like the idea and functionality of the MyWeb script.......its just too expensive to be worth it.

I think that if they merged PHPCOW and MyWeb into one application and sold it for a more affordable price ($400-500 range), that it would be a fantastic bundle.
Whats the difference Capper between the two? Am I right MyWeb is just a homepage versus phpcow you get the...umm whole cow so to say
i want to test this script on http://www.veoos.com and doevry thing the phpcow admin say (ads,...) plz help me where can i resive this script ....
Basically, you can do the same thing with PHPCOW bu creating RSS blocks.....but the MyWeb program allows users to pick and choose widgets and organize them as they like. you can use it to create tabs/pages....one for news from various websites, the other dedicated to your site and content.

Its a neat idea, but not something I think will be feasible for 99% of websites. I'd like to have it to create a Tech News outlet to integrate into my site.
I'm aggressively seeking a software like MyWEB... Google, Netvibes, Page Flakes offer the functions that I'm seeking, but the software is build your own. Netvibes offers the exact product I need, but it's $15,000 and $2,000 per month... Alstrasoft has a product StartEnterprise for $399 but communication and tech support has been challenging... Just to obtain initial questions has been challenging.

I love the stated features of MYWEB, but I need some convincing before recommend it to my clients to purchase and use.

The PHPCow MyWeb API software documentation is still not available and currently you have to build any additional widgets using their 'code' or api system. You can't paste html of a widget into a 'module'. I'll be adding hundreds of widgets for my community to choose from. I'm evaluating the admin and start page system at this time.

My client wants to give each member of the org the ability to build their own home page and move widgets etc. I think that this is a great idea for the members. The one thing we want to do is to restrict the widgets, so that the user can only choose from the widgets that the admin allows.

A neat example of this is the New York Times - My Times personal home page. They are using Googles' api.

One of my other concerns is that the software was launched on 4/14/08. It's still brand new... another is that the price is quite high compared to the other products that they sell.

I tried the CMS product and it thought that it was very good, but you have to learn how learn how to "moo" your way through the cow language. The CMS tool seems to be very robust and powerful. The MyWeb doesn't seem to have the tried and true 'feeling'.

I'd love to speak with someone who is currently using the MYWEB software.. I haven't found anyone yet.

That's the scoop at this point in time... I'm eager to speak with anyone that has developed a personal homepage for members or whoever may have input about MyWEB....

I've been searching the web for you webminister to try to find anyone even using this script yet but haven't had any luck. Sorry. Interesting concept you have though. To allow your members to make their own homepages etc. via the widgets you have....as I told you, I know very little about this new script. But I assume you've done as much research on it as you can. So this new MyWeb allows visitors to make their own 'look/functions" on the homepage? Am I understanding that correct? Interesting!
Yes... MyWEB would give me the ability to allow every registered member of the community the ability to create their own unique home page. As the admin, I would have the ability to make widgets available for their use on their home pages. I would also create content that is specifically related to the organization... calendars, documents, RSS feeds for podcast. But again the closed system.. Like an intranet....

MyWEB is a clone of PageFlakes or Netvibes.. The New York Times just created a personalized member home page using Google's new OpenSocial api....

One developer told me he could build it, but the user would not have the ability to drag or move the widgets...for $7,500.... to me for $7,500, the developer should be able to add the drag java script to his project......

Regarding PHPCow, I'm still searching for the PHPCow MyWEB that is being used in the real world...

Kaos (Kim), thanks again for all of your help and this wonderful forum!!!!

My real problem is I wouldn't consider it until PHPCOW starts developing a much better customer service reputation.....its just far too much money to spend considering how we've been treated, as wel as the coding issues you mentioned.
